Legendary comedian and actor Jerry Lewis died at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, at 9:15 a.m. on August 20, 2017, at the age of 91. He died of natural causes.
On Monday, August 21, 2017, Las Vegas resorts up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip, downtown Las Vegas, and around the valley paid tribute to the so-called “King of Comedy” with historic images from the Las Vegas News Bureau archive. Marquees lit up to display images of legendary comedian, entertainer and humanitarian.
Jerry Lewis performed a final run of shows at the South Point Hotel-Casino in October 2016. Several weeks earlier he introduced his final film, “Max Rose,” to celebrity guests with an intimate question-and-answer gathering at a screening in Las Vegas.
Below are exclusive photos from both those final public moments with the iconic comedian, filmmaker and humanitarian. The highlight is a rare backstage portrait following Lewis’s final show.
